about

This is a song about the loss of my late mother, Eva Colorni.

lyrics

When I was 8 years old you left us
But time passed and now I realize how much you blessed us
You gave me life and showed me what it means to love
You taught me kindness and exactly what that was
And even though these words sting and they hurt to write
And even though denial made me the first to fight my inner feelings,
Now I just can’t hold them in
And I surely wish I could feel all your warmth again
But I can’t, all I’ve got are these memories
So I keep reflecting light, I won’t let them be my enemies
I tell my kids about you and they’ll learn eventually
How much the loss of someone effects you mentally
They’ll also learn all about how much you meant to me
And how an indestructible strength was sent to me
A sense of power, the feeling of invincibility
The trauma subsided in the face of my humility

Her name was Eva, she was one of a kind
Grace, intelligence and beauty combined
And I can’t leave the feeling behind
So I do my best to reimagine her with my mind

When you left I felt the pain so heavy in my chest
A sickness and a sorrow that never left I guess
We moved from London and we headed west
Across the pond to Boston, a new address
I was still a mess and in deep distress
But I turned the pain to power and I worried less
Perhaps I let it sink in the sea, depressed
Or maybe I was just tired of feeling stressed
I started writing songs and I felt possessed
Music gave meaning to the meaningless
I dealt with some emotions, others were suppressed
And today these lyrics deal with what was not addressed
I refuse to care who feels it or who’s not impressed
I’m dealing with these feelings that must be expressed
I hope these words give strength to those who feel oppressed
And that they can deal with pain in ways that suit them best

Her name was Eva, she was one of a kind
Grace, intelligence and beauty combined
And I can’t leave the feeling behind
So I do my best to reimagine her with my mind
